The National Fire Protection Association and State Farm have announced this year's Wildfire Community Preparedness Grant. The application period is open until February 28. This is an easy grant to apply for that almost anyone is eligible for. Its not designed for well funded taxed based organizations. But if you are considering a small project in your volunteer fire district, firefighter association, firewise community, neighborhood, subdivision, Homeowner's Association, or on or around your own home, property, or business, to reduce the risk of wildfire, this is a great opportunity for a $500 award to help cover some if not all of your costs.
The website offers suggestions for ideas and projects, and I can do the same. There have been some in recent years on this end of the Treasure Valley on both sides of the state line that have received this award as well as recipients in Baker County and across Oregon and Idaho. It doesn't take much to start to improve your home and property's resistance to vegetation fires and this is a great way to get started. I encourage you to take a look at this.
Depending on your project and location, Vale BLM may be able to partner with you and collaborate for a larger effort (in Oregon).
Please forward to others who may be interested.
