ONREP Fire Workshop for K-12 Educators

ONREP Workshop Schedule - Special Invitation to a Fire Workshop in May!

Exploring Fire and Resilient Ecosystems:

A Middle School Fire K-12 Essential Question Progression Workshop

Date: Tuesday, May 25th,

Time: 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Format: online, 1 session

Audience: Formal and non-formal middle school educators

Ecosystems are dynamic in nature and their characteristics vary over time in response to disturbances such as fire. Ecosystem resilience describes how physical or biological components respond to change to promote long term ecosystem health. With fire ecology as a context, this workshop will explore an approach to using learner-centered essential questions that spark discussions, reflect on thinking, articulate thinking with evidence, broaden perspectives, and deepen understanding. A trauma informed mindset is critical to authentically centering learners; we will be modeling how the essential question process compliments these strategies. This interactive workshop will provide participants with content resources, trauma informed strategies, a sneak peak at the Fire K-12 Essential Questions Progression and more!

This workshop is co-hosted by Oregon Forest Resources Institute (OFRI) and Ecology Outreach.

Registration required. Offered at no cost to formal and nonformal Oregon educators. PDUs available. Substitute reimbursement available.
