Emerging Writers Dual Credit Course

Announcement about Four Rivers Healthy Community’s Emerging Writers dual credit course at TVCC!

Hello all,

Wanted to give everyone in the community notice that we’ll be hosting an exciting opportunity for high school students, current students, and community members. The Emerging Writers Dual Credit course is an exciting opportunity for students to learn more about writing, from personal improvement to publishing. The class will be held over two Saturdays, April 10 and 17 from 10:00 – 2:30 pm. The class is FREE for all high school students who can attend in-person or online. (In-person students get lunch though, so there’s a huge plus) TVCC college students and community members will pay the rate for the credit and be tuning in through Zoom. They can sign up at

Not only is this a great opportunity for our area high school students, it’s also a great 1 credit class for any student who needs an elective. This opportunity is for everyone, from students who want to be writers to students who could use a boost with their skills. Topics covered include fiction, poetry, graphic novels, grammar, essay writing, and MORE!

We have many amazing speakers, but I’d like to highlight that we’ll be hosting Trung Le Nguyen, whose book The Magic Fish was an incredible debut and has been named one of the best books of 2020 by the New York Public Library, Kirkus Reviews, Booklist, and Publishers Weekly. An immigrant story about how a mother and son relate to each other through fairy tales, it’s beautifully drawn and will give you all sorts of warm fuzzies. (You can also see we have some great Chukar representation in the mix)

If you have any questions or would like to know more, please let me know! We already have several in-person sign-ups and I want to make sure that all area students have the chance to participate in this great opportunity. For more information about Emerging Leaders programming, you can go to

How can you support?

  • I have more than 60 posters in English and Spanish sitting in my office that need to go out to the community if you’d like one!

  • Attached is a community sponsorship letter. I you would like to add your name to the list and get your entity’s logo on the cover of the journals students will be receiving, let me know by this Friday, March 26 at 3:00 pm.

  • We’ll have some ads floating around social media. If you see one, like and share. 😉

  • Help a student sign-up! Our big goal is to have 45 in-person and 45 online. Like I said this isn’t just for the honors student, this is for every student!

Thank you for all the support for our great admissions events!
